Overview
An NZQA-approved national screen training programme supporting the development of below-the-line crew across Aotearoa. Funded by NZ On Air and Netflix, the 2026 programme combines online learning, classroom training in Auckland and workplace placements across key screen departments including camera, grip and lighting, production, costume, make-up, props and set dressing. Travel and accommodation support may be available for selected regional participants.
Applications are now open for the NZQA-approved Kahurangi Toi Ātea (KTA) National Screen Training Programme, supporting the development of below-the-line screen crew across Aotearoa.
Funded by NZ On Air and Netflix, the 2026 programme will be delivered through South Seas Film School Campus – Yoobee College of Creative Innovation in Auckland.
Participants must be available for:
Training pathways are available across Camera Assist, Grip & Lighting, Production Assist, Cast Driver, Production Runner, Costume Assist, Make Up Assist, Props, Set Dressing and Specialty.
KTA will select participants from across the regions, with some travel and accommodation support available where required. Workplace placements will also be offered on selected screen productions.
An online information webinar will be held on 2 September at 7.30pm for anyone wanting to learn more about the programme, expectations and support available.

From annual hui’s and national conferences to local workshops and film premieres, plus Q&A sessions with writers and producers offer unique insights into an exciting industry where connections build collaborations.
The Gone is a six-part crime/drama series, directed by Peter Burger and Hannah Quinn. Made in collaboration between Kōtare Productions, Keeper Pictures, and Kingfisher Films, in partnership with Southern Light Films.
Filming occurred in Dublin, Auckland, and Te Aroha, with the main cast featuring Acushla-Tara Kupe, Richard Flood, Manu Bennett, and Carolyn Bracken.
Production on a second series started in February 2024.
